3.2 Set Assessments
Back to help index
On to ‘Reports’ >>
3.2.1 Selecting a class, year group or student
Click the 'Set Assessments' button to choose which students to assign the assessment to. The default selection under 'Select students' is to Class, with the classes available to you shown in the 'Select class' pane:

Selecting 'Year Group' under 'Select students' will update the list on the right to show the year groups you can set assessments for. Selecting 'Individual Student' under 'Select students' changes the list on the right to show a search box:

You can search for students by first name or last name and the resulting list shows all matching students with full name and associated class. Click to select a student from the results list, or enter a new search term and click the 'Search' button to search again. Note that you can only select a single student to assign an assessment to in this way. To set the same assessment for a small group you need to either assign the same assessment individually to each student or create a new class with the students in and set the assessment for that class.
3.2.2 Selecting content
Once you have selected a class, year group or student, click the 'Next' button to move on and select the assessment content:

You can select either a Module assessment or an Item assessment – the drop-down menus on the right will update to show you the options available. Once you have made the content selection, click 'Next' to move on and select a tier for the assessment.
3.2.3 Selecting a tier
Select a tier from the available tiers in the box on the left. If you would like to adjust the tier for individual students click the 'By Student' button to see a list of all students in the class:

You can set the tier for the assessment for each student by using the drop-down menu next to the student name – the default value is the tier set for the whole assessment. Click 'Cancel' to hide the student list and reset all the students to the same tier. Once you are happy with the tiers, click 'Next' to move on and set a date for the assessment.
3.2.4 Setting a due date and assessment type
To set a date for the assessment either select the date from the drop-down menus or click the calendar icon to launch a graphical calendar where you can click on the date you need:

The currently selected date is shown with a red square around it. To change the month, click the '<<' and '>>' icons in the calendar pane. Either click on a date to select it or click the 'Close' link to close the calendar window.
You select the type of assessment from the choice on the left:
- Unsupervised assessments can be taken by the student at any time, even past the allocated date.
- Supervised assessments must be taken at the date and time you specify and allow the class to take the assessment under more exam-like conditions. With a supervised assessment the link to start the assessment is only active on the students' home page at the time you specify for the assessment, and is also available after the assessment for absent students to take the assessment. You can optionally set a time for the assessment as well.
Click 'Next' to move on and confirm the assessment details.
3.2.5 Confirm assessment details
The confirmation screen summarises the assessment details you have selected. Check the details to make sure you are happy with your choices – use the 'Back' button to go back in the sequence if you need to amend any details. Add any instructions in the 'Type instructions for students' box if you need to – the instructions will display on the student home page assessment summary as 'Message from your teacher'.
Once you are happy with all the details, click the 'Confirm' button to save the assessment in the system. All students selected for the assessment will now see it in their list of assessments assigned.
3.2.6 Delete assessment
If, after setting an assessment, you realise you have made a mistake or you change your mind, you can use the 'Delete assessment' link under the assessment name in the appropriate 'Assessment name' box on the Teacher Home Page to delete it - only if, in the case of an unsupervised assessment, no student has started it, or, in the case of a supervised assessment, the set date is in the future. An onscreen box will pop up to tell you if either of these conditions apply and that you cannot therefore delete the assessment.
You can now navigate to a new section or log out.
